FREEDOM ISN'T FREE

Galatians 5:1-15

John Quincy Adams recognized the link between our nation's spiritual purpose and it's beginnings and growth. In a speech given on July 4, 1837, he proclaimed:

Why is it that, next to the birthday of the Savior of the world, your most joyous and most venerated festival returns to this day? Is it not that, in the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior? That it forms a leading event in the progress of the gospel dispensation? Is it not that the Declaration of Independence first organized the social compact on the foundation of the Redeemer's mission upon earth?!

As society enters the third millennium since the birth of Christ, we find America in the midst of a grave internal crisis that poses a threat to our existence. Gathering spiritual and moral storms threaten to destroy all the blessings God has given us over the years.

In 2 Chronicles 7:19, 20, God warned His people, Israel, that ignoring His standards would have dire consequences. Although this warning was written to the Israelites, the principle still applies today. Those nations that obey God's commands are blessed; those that deny and turn from God are led by their own sin into God's judgment – and to destruction.

But God also provides a way out. Verse 14 of 2 Chronicles 7 promises blessing to the nation that obeys Him. Today, America has only two choices: continue on its ungodly path to destruction or respond to God's call for repentance. With a genuine revival of righteousness and a renewed biblical commitment to God, He can restore our nation even at this late hour.
